How Much Staples Charge For A Fax

The Swiss and Immigration

As I already wrote, this week is dedicated to the discovery of the courses and people like me being the master (or exchange).
the first day I met a nice Bulgarian: Stan, and it made some progress it has in common with me.
All that to come to immigration and a comparison between a Swiss national of the EU (the West) and others.

For Switzerland, no problem at arrival in the canton of Vaud, I do not even know if he should or should not go and tell the police.
For others it's different.
For Europeans, not normally need a visa or passport, identity card is sufficient.
must go within 8 days to register with the police sercice immigration in his city (for me Lausanne), with multiple documents: A recognition
debt saying it gives you enough money to live in Switzerland: 2100 CHF per month. For the document is available here: http://www.lausanne.ch/DataDir/LinkedDocsObjDir/3619.pdf. Sure, it is within 8 days it signed by the guarantor, in my case my father. Then you
completed a record (blue for EU citizens) with their name address etc. etc.. and specify the type of stay. For me, a student must then provide the document to the school. (But it's very well done at the EPFL, the certificate of registration to the Master is available online in pdf and printable !!!). So with all this
attach a photo ID and a document showing that you have enough money (bank statement, tax bill etc.. Etc.).

After shedding 95 CHF for me, 150 Stan, you said that you write when your card will be available over the counter ... The card is Valabre 5 years, if finally you do not change the situation. Emilien had to repay because he went from student to worker.

Good at organizing the Swiss administration, I have nothing to fault, you take your Tiquet, so you wait your turn. etc.. everything is so clean. By
cons when you do something you are taking money.

quick note at the Swiss: A Swiss
loves his country and he bought in Switzerland. A Swiss is very welcoming with strange so sure we do not lack respect for him. A Swiss in general did not say he can vote for national parties. The Swiss are friendly rules, pedestrian crossings, of politeness.
Little remark about the French: A French
is a joker. Many French student living in Switzerland and want to take the Nationality ... Why? bah because being French it means nothing. And then the Swiss saw the first strange when there is a problem in the company.
(To become Swiss, one must live in the country 12 years (each year under 20 years count double).)

quick note on the Franco-Swiss. Poor
they are rooms in France because they are Swiss and Swiss because they are strange ^^...

Cartier Trinity With Diamonds Price

My first day of classes and my disappointments ... My roommates

Yesterday, I had an appointment with the head of the section to present my course selection.
All went well, I'll just have a first half very, very busy with 36 ECTS credits (normally 30).
I'll have to work :/...
short, just after this meeting face to face, my nice PC HP brand has passed away without warning. Only one shutdown innopiné and since then no sign of life. As
must connect with a RJ45 cable to my residence for the Internet, I have no real way of communication.
Luckily there are ways to EPFL, particularly in buildings of the computer section (pictures are taken, I wait to have a pc for the add: p). In the small room where I am, on one side with 42 computer flat screen 21 "and the other as well. (It's one of the rooms, there are others, not hurt others. ..).
I remmercie Emilien who lent me her pc last night so I could check the date of expiry of the warranty on my laptop. I was lucky, that is until 20 September So in 6 days! (three-year warranty) ... By
cons nothing wrong with the service pro HP. They called me in the morning, a couple of questions about symptoms and engineer myself offers a collection by courier (UPS in France of course). It will Monday. In passing I will get my old wheelbarrow (p3 450 mhz) to help me time to repair.

My first day of classes.
In fact on Monday it may be the coolest day of my week.
I have one or two courses in the afternoon (2 to 5 hours of courses) according to my choice. (If I do not take the second course on Monday after noon, I take it Tuesday morning).
the program of my day: information theory and codes followed by the algrithmique distributed. All in English with an Indian for the first Courset an American second. American who kept hopping throughout the auditorium (which has nothing to do with the small auditorium of ESISAR).
This week is reserved for testing of course. Ehhhh, yes, in Switzerland you are entitled to like or dislike your teachers. This to make the best uses of time. Good teachers
each begins its course, so if you're not there at first, it's your problem.

For my part, I am still leaves a choice between two courses: Distributed algorithms
Monday aprem
Distributed Information Systems on Tuesday morning
The two are the same.
I do an article later on the course selection system in Switzerland, you have to be engineers to understand everything the first time! The photos arrive

later;)

Compare Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 And 1600

We are four in the apartment.
the last person I met on Thursday, I was passing to get a few things and take my own bike.
We're in full: D in a true English hotel.
There are two boys, Jakov and I and two daughters, Catherine and Anna.
Jokib just Macedonia. He speaks English very well (lived and studied in the USA), a little less French. He comes from Stanford, where he did a thesis on problems in computer video transmission in real time. He came to EPFL to work with researchers working on the same field as him. (So it is post doctoral assistant prof ...?)
Catherine is a Canadian from Toronto. She speaks English so well but also French (her mother is from Quebec). She finished her studies in sports (she played much football) seeking a job (UEFA?).
Anna English Barcelona. She came here after his bachelor of architecture to the master.

Catherine and Jakov

Anna and Catherine

We usually talk in English in a roommate. So much the better, with my French accent cut with a knife and my problems with grammar, I can better myself: p.

week integration

Newcomers to the small stuff, whether in bachelor, masters, etc. in exchange. have the possibility of the integration week organized by the student association of the EPFL: Agepoly.
week costs 200 CHF (about 130 euros). You are asked to bring a change of clothes (including shoes), a sleeping bag and good mood: P.
The week began on Tuesday at 13:30.
I will not recount in detail all that is done, not to spoil the fun future participants. Ok, so I say a little more.
This does not really look like a French integration. It is made by (large majority) of students in second year of bachelor. The atmosphere is really not: the former is our master at all, they made their obedience, but rather a big band mate who has fun.
After visiting some parts of the school (library, language center), we went by bus direction Gruyere. It made us believe that we would visit the museum but actually not, we ended up in a huge chalet in the Alps ...
The chalet (yes it is wood)

the agenda of the day's games will know, a drink with lots of varieties of Swiss cheese, and an evening with a little alcohol. ..
Among other things, beer Switzerland pressure:
Well I'm not a big fan of white beer Edelweiss pressure, it has a weird taste (flowers?)
But for those who do not like beer, all kinds of cocktails were present ... ehhh yes, they have not signed the charter on alcohol from Esisar: p.
Well, once we see the EPFL, the building of Agepoly ... we understand that there is money, lots of money.
After a few hours of sleep (is counting on the fingers of one hand) and a revival in pots, we made an orienteering and cannioning.
It was really nice. We had the sun, which allowed us to warm up a bit in the water at 8 ° C. In fact it went very well, we had combinations (6mm?) Semi waterproof.
As every night, Wednesday night was a little party, sleep, little sleep, waking casseroles (baricadé good we had the door with a cabinet, so it went. I pass on details.
Thursday was dedicated to games in the EPFL. It was good because given the size of campus before I was really confused.
the evening, we stayed at the Hilton in ... ...
EPFL

In fact, it was a dormitory of the school's bunker . Ah yes, as in all Swiss homes, there is a fallout shelter.

The entrance to the bunker
An armored doors

One of the two dormitories where they had access

the evening, as every evening a little party but this time in the chalet serving municipal hall in the city of Lausanne, small cabin in the woods a few miles from home. Well, when I saw it was 80 in two dormitories in the bunker, with some alcohol too, I preferred to go on a bike at home and finally have 8 hours of sleep. (I had planned the coup by not drinking hardly at all.)
was introductory and Friday, or rather, the open house.
the program, speeches Official presentation of the various associations and welcome by his section.
For the record, I agree Emilien, and you walk. All of a sudden he turned and said to me, the girl in purple, I've already seen somewhere on Valencia ....
few hours later, the door would take place or the home section of Emilien, this young lady again.
All of a sudden flash of genius: THALES. Emilien had worked a home two years ago for the internship and the technician had met the first day. Emilien
not too daring, I'll see her and ask her if she comes from Valencia. His face changed suddenly, she was very surprised. In is it really lives in Valencia, but was educated in Lyon at PBS. She looks very nice, we'll see later for a drink together. Moral of the story: the world is small.
(I have another story in the genre, but I have to check something before you tell it ....).
Good evening games in the small stuff and a meal. Being a bit sick, very tired and having learned that I should go see the head die Sunday with my plan of study (or at least a draft), I decided to return.
I returned for lunch, but in view of the tail, I jumped on my bike and I've been eating a good old chilli corn carne. I'm too lazy to go to resorts in other box.
Today it's raining: /. The program included a rally in Lausanne. I dropped my team (shame on me) and I preferred to stay at home, work and my study plan to do some shopping for the weekend. Anyway I think go to the party tonight will be huge.

My views on this week is that it is expensive at first, but that in view of the activities, it's worth it.
At the human level, I met many great people. I met the young French and Swiss entering bachelor, master info and being in the same people from finishing their master.
I'll be able to ask them for advice on course selection;).

Blueprint For A Table

My first day in Switzerland

Monday, September 8, the day of departure.
From Stress? Not even just sad that the holidays will end up with everything that goes with ...

short, starting around 13:30 with the bike.
the program just under 3 hours drive: 1 hour before arriving in Basel, Bern until 1am and 1am to Lausanne.

According to google map: 269 km - about 2 hours 47 minutes

mandatory first stop with the bike, the Swiss border. At this point, nothing special, some customs and especially two ladies thumbnails. So I go home and ask them if they could not offer me one answer: dreiunddreißig Euro ... Huh?? 33 euros, it puts it in your pocket or I misunderstood?? Anyway I'm crazy, I paid in Swiss francs to 40 francs (25 euros) that cost a thumbnail!
Second stop, 50 km from Lausanne to refuel. Ahhh good news in Switzerland, the essence is as tobacco is a bit cheaper than in France (Is that the only things that matter). Further to 9.5 liters 2 CHF littre of the unleaded 98 on the highway (1,254 euros).

arrived safely in Lausanne, I am very careful about my speed, because in Switzerland it is the vicious, there's a lot of tunnels limited to 100 km / h, highway 120 and safety cameras hidden everywhere!

arrived at the apartment, nobody ... I am a bit disappointed but 10 minutes later, my roommate returned from two weeks holiday in Ireland. Catherine is Canadian (from Toronto) who studied French in high school, speaks very good French (her mother is from Quebec). It is a kind of thesis at the EPFL in sport and society. I ask him more info later.
I ask him to explain the house rules. She explains that every one has his cupboard for food, its floor in the fridge and common. That one of the shower was restricted to these two girls and the other guys. But hey now there will be only one girl, so we will do otherwise. I ask him lots of questions about the subway, on the ski and I receive more info than I wanted. It is really nice and gives me all the tricks.

An hour later comes Jakov. A guy also very nice, PhD in computer Stanford University in the USA on issues straming video. He is at the EPFL to work with researchers on site. It just salad and speak very well English, understands French but does not speak it too well. So basically, we often speak in English (chic chic chic, I can better myself).

the evening, I prepared a meal for three of us (we do not know when the 4th will move), fajitas history to discuss everything and nothing at the lunch. The next meal will be less common, each with its own schedule.

It is 9:20 ET I'm going to hurry, I have plenty to do this morning:
- go to the post office to pay rent
- go to the police (immigration authorities) to inform them of my presence
here - Go to the EPFL to retrieve papers

And at 13:30, beginning the week of integration!

What Happens If My Rack And Pinnion Break

My apartment and my registration at EPFL

On 2 September, I went to register at EPFL at 11am, ie give the original documents proving my graduation or my year before entering the EPFL (I put the bachelor of the year before and the ballot this year) and provide an address in Switzerland.

The school is very organized. The procedure takes 5 min (5-10 min + tail). It then gives you your student card that doubles as to pay in different restaurants and Ikea cafeteria on campus.

At 14h, I went to retrieve the keys to my flat (44 (3033) Route de Chavannes in Lausanne). The 3033 is my room number.
After explanations of the concierge (a true Swiss, he explains slowly and then explains why he says you and ask you if you commprissss, while the French Swiss uh) I do the inventory, (apart although a bit dirty but still ... normal people live in!) and deposited my belongings.
I am with 3 people, 2 boys and a girl. Catherine, and Jakov??. The first two were visibly last year (in order of words in English on their respective gates). I have not seen it yet.

Monday I go back on a bike (it is cheaper ... parked as there is none at the residence and that it pays for semester at EPFL).

Can You Put A Refridgerator In A Closet

The Swiss, money, scholarships, and the price of life

Money is a problem in Switzerland. The living standard is the same as in France aps. The food is more expensive (30%? It's not for nothing that some Swiss people come to live in France or go shopping.).
Do not forget that the euro is not the Swiss Currency. It is the Swiss franc, CHF ( 1 Swiss franc = 0.632257747 euros) . The easiest way to avoid the highest fees and exchange rates fixed costs is to open a bank account.
For this, two possibilities. Open a Swiss bank account (free, BC costing CHF 40 per year) or at the office or elsewhere) or to open an account in France in Swiss currency.
I chose the second option because I am in credit unions ... and the Alsatian border regularly do. (They say they are cheaper than the Swiss banks).
With this account, my credit card (which cost me 20 or 25 year CHF I think). To differentiate it from my master card in euros, I took a Visa, which is not necessarily a good thing, Coop eg refusing this type of card.
At the exchange, I negotiated with my bank. They do not set during a transfer from my account to my account in Euro currency. He did make money (very little) on the exchange rate). Then, no more fees, I can pay or withdraw money in Switzerland as I see fit. The only fees come from transfers between my comtpe currency and in Swiss comtpe (11 euros per transfer). I'll pay for different things in the mail by providing the cash;).

Despite the cost of living higher, a student who goes to the right to aid. Some arrive even earn money in the end.
I'll do a summary of awards for which a student like me has the right and the various costs in trying to forget as little as possible.

Scholarship Rhone-Alpes (grant exploration u): 95 euros per week, 35 weeks max scholarships.
This award is given by the region, the file is taking at the school starting.
Personally I was 14 weeks plus a fixed sum awards as I am a Fellow (530 euros).

Higher Education Scholarship nuts Grenoble: 250 euros per month from level 0 for studies abroad (ie in addition to scholarships awarded based on the level).
School of departure must normally make the papers ... watch this

escellence Award (Switzerland) is a scholarship to a maximum monthly amount is 1600 .- for the 10 months of the academic year !!!!!
There are about twenty per year. Must complete a record indicating the total income. The Swiss
and country students see development priority.
I received a negative response at the same time that acceptance to the Master.

Erasmus Scholarship: Scholarship given by France for universities European and the Swiss EPFL (the Swiss are not part of europe).
I do not know the amount of the award. I will inquire with Emilien who are normally law.
me I am not eligible because I am not regarded as an exchange student but as a normal student in master course.
I do not have this scholarship, I must also discharge the tax.

Overall, I explored the purse sup for 14 weeks and the award of higher education ... but that's all that's not bad!

Price of apartment (Bourdonette Switzerland): 360 euros. Charges are included as well as Internet access. Payment is either by deposit into their bank accounts from a post office (there's one right in front of the residence) or by direct deposit but it requires payment.

Award semester at EPFL: 633 CHF (for the year, roughly the same as the INP)

Thumbnail for Swiss motorway (Valabre until late January): 40 CHF

I will update this post with the prices of transport, the sticker to park (yes you pay in Switzerland!) etc..
